FAQs

What gets the process started?

When someone suffers a non-survivable, life threatening injury, the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) approaches the family/next of kin to ask consent for organ donation to occur.

How do you get from hospital to hospital?

SUVs with lights/sirens, police cars, ambulances, helicopters, and private jets! Although, sometimes if not everything goes to plan, we’ve been known to use Uber before!

Do you just transport the organ?

No! Although transportation is a huge part of what we do, we are the team that actually goes and performs the surgery to remove (procure) the organ from the donor and bring it to the recipient.

What is your schedule like?

My team works in 24 hour shifts, going anywhere at any time!

Do you enjoy what you do?

Not a single person works in this field that doesn’t love what they do, its what keeps us getting on the planes!
